What is session 9 about

Watch options. Storyline Edit. An asbestos abatement crew wins the bid for an abandoned insane asylum. What should be a straightforward, if rather rushed, job, is complicated by the personal histories of the crew. In particular, Hank is dating Phil's old girlfriend, and Gordon's new baby seems to be unnerving him more than should be expected.

Things get more complicated as would-be lawyer Mike plays the tapes from a former patient with multiple personalities, including the mysterious Simon who does not appear until Session 9, and as Hank disappears after finding some old coins.

Fear Is A Place. Rated R for language and brief strong violence. Did you know Edit. He claims that while filming on the roof, a voice in his head told him to jump off to see what would happen. Mullan said the building brought out a morbid kind of "overactive curiosity. Goofs Peter Mullan kept forgetting to limp during his scenes resulting in many continuity errors. These are noted in the director's commentary as well.

Quotes Gordon : You! A homeless woman resides in Danvers State Hospital, and watches the crew go about their business. Initially presented as a menacing "being", shown as collecting objects rubbish, leaves, insects in threes in a room, she then becomes more and more human through the film. The crew observe things to give her presence away. She witnesses their murders, and becomes scared.

Once is chance, twice is coincidence, third time is a pattern. The only real question is, did Simon make him kill, or did the evil already in Gordon cause Simon to seek him out? That makes him think he has to apologize to his wife, Wendy, but not enough to know that she is already gone.

Each of the personalities is compartmentalized enough to remember bits and pieces of the big picture but not see the complete reality with the exception of Simon. One last theory and one I believe is the correct one is that Gordon was a previous resident at the asylum. Gordon seems to know a lot more about the building than he lets on. Towards the beginning, Gordon leads ahead of the tour guy.

The plot thickens when Gordon stumbles upon a collection of session tapes chronicling one of the patients previously housed there. Interestingly, he calls Mike Princess in one scene which foreshadows that they are not his crew, but rather, stand-ins for the family members he murdered. With this in mind, Gordon could simply be navigating this abandoned hospital trapped in his own interior, cooking up scenarios to escape from the truth.

He tells him that after their first day at the hospital when he went back home, his wife accidentally dropped a steaming vessel of pasta on his leg. This bouquet is the same one that Gordon had carried home to his wife on the first day. Much later in the movie, it is revealed that Gordon did not only slap his wife that day but killed her and his baby after she dropped the vessel of pasta on his leg.

Why did Gordon kill his wife, you might ask? This itself can have two explanations. This, along with the stress of his work piles-up on him and drives him nuts.

The mental breakdown he experiences because of all this makes him lash out on his wife. However, in some ways, this theory demeans all the other supernatural plot points surrounding Mary and her manifestations in the hospital.

When his curiosity gets the best of him and he puts his hand inside the crack, he discovers a number of coins, gold teeth, silver lobotomy instruments, and even eyes balls inside it. Although he does not realize this, he gets all these objects out of the furnace where patients were previously burnt.

Soon after this, as Hank attempts to sneak out of the hospital with all the gold and silver he has acquired, a dark figure follows him.
